League Rules

The 2024 TCGL rules are as follows:

  • The format is a 2-person scramble with Stableford scoring.
  • The league will kick off with an 18-hole team outing, scheduled for Saturday, April 8th, 2023. The outing starts at 9am but please be present at 8:30am for league announcements.
  • The league will then run for 18 weeks, regular season commencing on April 12th, 2023 with the last week of play being on August 9th, 2023 (weather permitting). We play on Wednesday nights at Spring Valley Golf Course.
    • The outing (18 holes, weeks 1 & 2) and week 3 (9 holes) make up a team's initial handicap. No purses will be awarded for these rounds.
    • If a league night is cancelled, no scores will be recorded for this week. Instead, an additional week of play will be appended to the league's schedule.
    • Should 3 (three) or more weeks get rained out, those weeks are stricken from the season and the purse will be evenly distributed among the other weekly purses.
  • All league members should download the GroupMe Messaging App. It is available for both Android and iPhone. You'll also need to create a free GroupMe account.
  • Once you have an account, please join the TC Golf League Chat Group.
  • REQUIRED: Each team needs to record both their own score, as well as their play-group's score. Scorecards are then to be signed by the teams and text-messaged to the League President.
  • All male league play will utilize the white tees.
  • All female league play will utilize the red tees.
  • No mulligans. Play each shot as a stroke.
  • Putt everything out, there are no gimmies.
  • Each player will receive a "club-length" of repositioning distance, should he or she need to move the ball due to an obstacle.
    • Do not move your ball closer to the pin, only left, right or away from the pin.
    • This does not include removing your ball from inside a water hazard.
  • If you hit out of bounds off the tee:
    • One stroke penalty.
    • No loss of distance.
    • Drop your ball where it went out of bounds.
  • If you cannot play on the designated league night:
    • You should contact your partner ahead of time and attempt to reschedule your round prior to the league night.
    • You can make up the round at your expense, provided:
      • The match is made up prior to the start of the following league play night (the following week).
      • Score is delivered to the League President prior to the start of the following league play night.
      • Failure to follow these instructions will result in a zero round.
  • If your partner does not show up for league play night, you may:
    • Play your official round without your partner. This can only be done three (3) times, per team, per season. The solo player will receive and extra shot for each shot, as if his or her partner was actually there.
    • Wait to golf until the two of you can schedule a time to make up the round, prior to the following league play night.
    • If you chose to play a casual solo round (without a league score), please make the rest of your group aware of that fact before beginning the round.
  • Due to the team handicap mechanics, the league scoring system does not allow subs to play in place of you or your partner.
  • Each team is required to check their own scorecard against their coutnerpart's scorecard. Any discrepancies should be taken care of immediately. It is your responsibility to turn in the scorecard. No challenge will be allowed after the cards have been turned in. Failure to turn in your scorecard will result in a zero round.
  • In order to remain in contention for any end-of-year pots, teams need to be present on leage night for the last four (4) weeks. It would be wise to save a "solo" round, in the event that there is an emergency.
  • Cheating will not be tolerated.

Scoring

Each team's initial handicap is derived from the exhibition week score, however no points or stats will be recorded for the exhibition week.

Handicaps will be calculated based on a 3-week rolling period of team scores. They will be recalculated weekly to include the most recent week's score, plus the prior 2 weeks' scores.

The maximum handicap for any team at any given point, is 14.

Using the chart below, point values are given according to each hole's adjusted score (handicap applied).

For example, if you shot adjusted pars accross the board on 9 holes, you would have earned 9 points for the week (9 holes x 1 points = 9 points).

A zero round is worth zero points but will not cause your handicap to change.

Event Point Value
Double Eagle 4
Eagle 3
Birdie 2
Par 1
Bogie 0
Double Bogie -1
Triple Bogie -2

Prizes & Payouts

All prizes below are calculated on 27 teams paying $100 in dues each ($2700).

Name Payout
1st Place, Season $575
2nd Place, Season $300
3rd Place, Season $100
Most Points, Weekly $60 (of $80)
2nd Most Points, Weekly (If No Tie) $20 (of $80)

Aggregate Ties

As the season unfolds, the winner of all ties (with the exception of the weekly points), is determined by team statistic count. For example, if both have an aggregate score of 100 points, the higher rank is given to the team with the most double eagles. If both teams have the same amount of double eagles, the system then looks at eagles (etc and so on). Once it reaches bogies, it becomes the team with the fewer bogies, then double bogies, then triple bogies.

Weekly Point Ties

If there is no tie for the weekly most points, a second-most points purse is awarded.

Should a tie for weekly post points occur, no second-most points purse is awarded. Instead the entire weekly purse is divided equally among tied players.

Examples

For the following examples, let's say that the total weekly purse is $100.

Example 1: No ties occur...

  • The team with the most points is awarded $80/100
  • The team with the second-most points is awarded $20/100.

Example 2: Two teams tie for most points...

  • Each of the tied teams for most points are awarded $50/100.
  • No additional payouts occur.

Example 3: No tie for most points but four teams tie for second-most points...

  • The team with the most points gets $80/100
  • Each of the tied teams for second-most points are awarded $5/20.
